Connect a domain you already own
The five steps, what we need from you and what we will never ask for, why your email keeps working, and who holds the registration.
On this page
Point it at us with one DNS change. The registration stays in your name at your registrar, and we never hold it.
The steps#
Five, and the site is answering by the last one.
- Tell us the domain, in the portal or by email.
- We send you the exact record to add, for that domain.
- Add it at your registrar, in their DNS settings.
- Tell us it is added.
- We issue the certificate and the site answers on your domain.
What we need from you#
Two things, and neither is a password.
- The domain name itself.
- Access to its DNS settings at whichever registrar holds it. That is you, or whoever manages it for you.
- We never ask for your registrar login. If anyone does, it is not us.
Your email keeps working#
This is the part people are right to worry about.
- Your email records are left alone. We change the records that point at the website, not the ones that route mail.
- Mail keeps working through the switch, including during the changeover.
- Tell us if your email is unusual and we will check the record set before anything moves.
Who holds the registration#
Nothing about ownership changes.
- It stays in your name, at your registrar.
- We never hold it, and we never become the registrant.
- You renew it, on your card, on your schedule.
If you do not have a domain yet#
Two honest options.
- Register it wherever you like and bring it here. Any registrar works.
- A custom build includes one domain for the first year, registered in your name.
- Buying a domain from us on its own is not open yet. We would rather say that than sell a rail that is not finished.
